Faisal, Andy, John and Chee Ben Jin (former drummer) founded the band in late 2008. Started off with friendship, they decided to form a band as they share common interest in music. The band was later joined by David in 2009. In August 2009, Ben left the band to further his studies overseas. He was then replaced by Moose in October 2009. In January 2010, David left the band due to personal reason. With his departure, the band is now a four-piece band with Faisal taking over the role as the bassist for the band.
A far cry from their beginning of playing covers, the band took a step forward by starting to write their own songs after being together for a few months. So far, two songs entitled “I’ll Never Get Tired of This” and “The Goodbye Song” has been recorded and released on the band’s MySpace page. HWC have played countless gigs including a gig for I-AMTV (Asian Independent Music Television) and Homegrown, the band aim to make a name in the Malaysian music scene.
They say that the songs that they wrote set them apart from the other bands. Usually for a pop punk band, the songs are usually catchy, up-tempo, cheerful and fun. However, for them they tried to put some emotion that listeners can relate to, into their songs and at the same time not losing the catchy elements.
Touch about preparation before they make a performance, individually, Faisal will drink lots of water, John and Andy will tune their guitars, and Moose usually walk around for some reason. As a band they said that they always make sure they come to the venue early and make sure they have enough practice beforehand.
Since they’re relatively a new band and they haven’t really established their name in the industry, it is hard for us to get income through shows. There are definitely ups and downs in terms of the money they get. But in the end of the day they’ll be happy as long as they can have fun on stage and entertain the crowd.
Currently HWC is waiting their first song in Malay language which called “Apa warnamu?” to be on air at Hot FM and Fly FM. They don’t have an album yet but they’re also currently working on their EP which they plan to release by year end.
