Kick Ass

Salam/hi.

How are you guys doing? Spending some leisure time not knowing what to do? Feeling so bored? Hoho. Don't worry, there's always something to be done. Just a suggestion, why don't you grab the keys and go to the cinema? There is a new movie called Kick Ass now showing in cinemas. Why should you? Okay, let me review a little about this movie as I have already gone watching it last week.

 http://www.shockya.com/news/wp-content/uploads/shut_up_kick-ass_poster.jpg

Kick Ass is based on dreams that most of boys have; to be a superhero. A boy just couldn't really stand it and started to become one on his own. It didn't really went well until he met a girl with his father who seemed to be real superheroes. I don't want to spoil the excitement by telling you how the story blooms. Below are my personal comments on this movie;

Great fighting action scenes. I really love the bleeping light scene. Cool! :)
Creative storyline - it doesn't really turn out as expected.
Fantastic casts line-up that also include some big names. Cutey Chloe Moretz surely grabs audiences' attentions. :)

However, I believe some scenes are not really necessary, whereas it would still give the same outcome for this movie without them. That would make this movie more appropriate for all ages also I guess, considering it is now 18PL-rated.

Confidently, I personally rate this movie 4.25 out of 5. Just grab the keys and go watch it now! It would be surely worth it. :)

Bagpipes

Salam/Hi,

What is this.....?

This is a bagpipe, which is a musical instrument that exists since the pre-medieval time.
But, its ancient origins is not too clearly stated, and most of the historians believe, this wind instrument existed a very long time ago,

Enough with history, lets get to know about the parts of bagpipes. You've got the blowpipes, chanter, drones, and the bag. This musical instrument can produce a very loud and amazing sound. Some people even said that, the sound from bagpipes can make children cry.

What makes this thing cool is for the fact that this instrument is not only being used to play music, but also being used in the army troop, marching band, and even a rock band.

To make things more interesting, bagpipes also have their own fans in Malaysia.
some are independent and some are under registered organizations.

Two bands that we want to highlight are Kuala Lumpur Pipes and Drums (KLPD), and the other one is The Sri Darmesh Pipes and Drums Band. Both of these bands already have their own fanbase and followers.

The Sri Darmesh Pipes and Drums Band

Kuala Lumpur Pipes and Drums (KLPD)

For your information, KLPD is the reigning champion of Malaysia World Band Competition
(MWBC), that was organized in Malaysia in 2009.

for more info regarding these two bands, you guys can visit their official website,

Euphonious `10 rawks!!

Salam/Hi

Last night has been a wonderful night for all UTP students who had been waiting for Euphonious '10. This year, Euphonious is celebrating its 5th anniversary. Thus, last night the event was held super successfully.

The Stereo Pop

Now, for those of you who aren't familiar with Euphonius, it's basically sorta like Battle of the Bands, held by the ICC of UTP annually. This battle of the band competition started with 25 bands signing up for the prelims, on the 3rd and 4th of April 2010. They were divided by 3 sessions and whaddaya know, Miss Juwita Suwito and one of the members from Altered Frequency came in as guest judges.

At the end of the day, 8 bands were announced to be at the finals last night. They were;

The 23rd of April 2010 saw them again battling it out to be crowned as the Champion of Euphonious '10. Of course these kinds of events would've blatantly suck without special guest performances. Last year, we had Bunkface rock the place, and this year students voted for Sixth Sense and they too rocked the stage last night.

the winner of eupho '10, Salmah & the Swingers!

This year, Euphonious has invited a few band from outside to compete with UTP bands. During prelims, there was a band from UNISEL and 2 bands from PUO (Politeknik Ungku Omar). Finally, one of the band from PUO, Project END made it to the finals.

The Euphonious Finale Night was attended by UTP's rector himself, the lecturers and students. They were supporting euphonious every year as this event is very good as student can show off their talents and being a part of healthy competition. Most of the students and lecturers being interviewed said that this event should not be seen as negative just because it includes singing all night long. For the consideration of all sides, the organizer worked very hard to make it a good event to please everyone. They tried hard to start the event very early so that it would end early too. They also did a lot of rehearsals so that it would flow smoothly because any incidents or problems would take a lot of energy for the committees to fix it up and take up a longer time from the event itself. For those who supported and worked very hard for this event, the organizers gives you all a very special thanks and hopefully this event can be held every year in UTP. ROCK ON!!

Sony Playstation Move

Salam/hi.

Hope all of you are in the pink of health. ;)
Okay, let's get straight to the topic. This time around, level-up segment will bring you a closer look into what we call Sony Playstation Move. Ever heard of it?

What is Playstation Move?

PlayStation Move is a handheld controller with a glowing orb on the top that works in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye camera to track video game movements like punches, sword strokes, and tennis racket swings. It also has regular controller buttons for shooting games that require you to pull a trigger.

PlayStation Move was introduced under its official name on Wednesday at the 2010 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. The announcement followed last year's sneak peek at Sony's motion control system during the E3 conference.

When will PlayStation Move be available?

No announcement of a specific date yet however many predict it will be released in late 2010.

How Much Does PSMove Cost?

There's no confirmed price yet, but the starter pack will cost less than $100, according to Sony Computer Entertainment America's Senior Vice President of Marketing Peter Dille.

How will the PlayStation Move be bundled?

There are three ways you will be able to buy PSMove:

  1. a starter pack that includes the PlayStation Eye, PSMove, and a game
  2. stand-alone controllers for people who already own a PlayStation Eye
  3. part of a full PS3 console pack including the console, PSMove wands, and the PlayStation Eye camera.
*It's unclear whether the PSMove console bundle will also come with Dual Shock controllers.

Are there any peripheral add-ons you can get for Move?

Sony has developed a second wand called the sub-controller. The sub-controller has an analog control stick that you hold in one hand while your other hand is busy using the PSMove wand. This will allow you to easily move your in-game avatars around for action games like SOCOM.

How does PSMove connect to the console?

Bluetooth technology.

How is it different from the WII Remote?

Similarly with Nintendo's pioneering 2006 motion controller, there are key differences, like a reduced button count and what promises to be better motion-sensing.

What else do I need to know?

PSMove lets you use true-to-life movements, accurately tracks your actions, and then turns them into precise on screen movements. The PSMove will also give you physical feedback, like vibrations, similar to the Dual Shock controllers.

Additional info

Sony's competitors, Microsoft is expected to release its new motion control system for the Xbox 360 called Project Natal. Unlike the PSMove, however, Natal tracks your real world movements without the need for a peripheral controller.

Making black & white background

Salam/hi!

Do you want to edit a picture that the background of the main character is black & white? like this:

before & after

If you do but you don't know how to do it, just follow these steps below. It is quite simple to produce pictures like the above. You'll need a photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop for this task. Enough with the mumbling. let's get started!

1st step: getting picture ready to be edited

Open your picture using Photoshop. At the layer tab (usually at bottom right) right-click the layer that contain the picture and click 'Layer From Background...' to enable picture to be edited.

just click 'OK' after that. If you want to rename the layer, just put up anything in the Name text box.

2nd step: isolating main character from background

Now is the tricky part. not so tricky actually.but it takes time to do it perfectly. Right-click on 'Lasso tool' button and select 'Polygonal Lasso Tool'.

by using polygonal lasso tool, trace the main character or the object that you want to maintain its color. here's a tip: trace a little bit inside the main character.just a little bit.this is to avoid some background to be inside the boundary of our main character.

Okay when you done with the tracing, right click inside the marquee (main character boundary) and select 'select inverse' to isolate the main character from background.

step 3: changing background into black&white

At this point, it will be a walk in the park. Just Click image>adjustment>black & white. and click okay after that on the appearing window.

There you go. major black & white background. But we are not through yet. Notice that inside the main character, there's a little bit background color.

4th step: touching up

Eliminate background color using the same way in step 3. This is for major parts.

For minor parts, we can use magic wand. Select 'magic wand' (usually beside lasso tool button).

First, click the desired part to be selected. For the next selection, right-click on the part and click 'Add to selection'. Do it for all the leftover parts. After you done selecting, click image>adjustment>black & white to eliminate color.
here's another tips: you can do the whole task using magic wand. But it will not be smooth like lasso method.

That's it. We are all done! Main character's color still intact while the background is
black & white. =)

p/s: but hey, don't forget to 'save as..'! you don't want to lose the original picture.

Skiff Reader

Salam.

Reading is good, that's an undeniable fact. Wait, would you flip over hundreds of pages to read till the end? That's one of the reasons people tend to stop reading, not to mention the weight of some books. Just look at this one;

http://rhythmicfantasy.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/thick-book.jpg

'Breathtaking', huh? Hehe. Never mind, good things should always be done, and better be easier. That's where technology comes in picture. See this, and compare with last one;

http://www.skiff.com/images/reader_photos/shot03_enlg.jpg
http://www.skiff.com/images/reader_photos/shot02_enlg.jpg
Better, right? This is the latest e-reader called Skiff Reader; all-in-one thin and incredibly light modern book. It's only 498 grams in weight and you can load as much PDF, blog pages, thesis and so on as you want inside it, without adding more weight of course. Hoho. Its 11.5-inch full touchscreen is slightly bigger compared to Kindle and Nook; other e-readers in market - which gives it advantages and also disadvantages at the same time. The advantages are it gives more view space and suits newspaper reading style, but the drawbacks are that it's slightly less portable and might need a laptop-size bag to be put into.

http://www.skiff.com/images/reader_photos/shot05_enlg.jpgThe resolution is also satisfying; 1200 x 1600 px. People who have tried it also commented that there is no much problem of pixelated images and so on. This device is almost complete I'd say - it is 3G and WiFi-enabled, got speaker for audio and long battery life. Just a great device for easy reading. Plus, it is also durable (shatter-proof, crack-proof) with its Magnesium housing and also rugged metal-foil e-paper display.

This will be the next wave of reading as claimed by the company that they want to achieve. A very good social responsible product I must say. However, till today, I still didn't hear any release date or price for this device yet. Or you guys had? Mind to share? =)

p/s: How cool to read AGEzine! on that Skiff Reader, aite? Ouch, I just want to~ X)

Fesyen Untuk Semua

Salam/hi..

8. Jika leher anda agak pendek, elak kenakan fesyen pakaian yang mempunyai kolar kerana seolah-olah kepala anda terperosok ke dalam kolar baju. Sebaliknya pilih fesyen berleher V.

Memetik kata-kata Juliana Ashikin Mohammad Tahir, 25, pemegang Ijazah Undang-Undang UiTM Shah Alam, “ Memang sensitif bila saiz tubuh yang menjadi tajuk perbualan, tetapi apabila kita semakin matang biarkan sahaja.
